<br />
It was their 30th anniversary & my mum & I headed over for 2 nights & 2 full days of stitching. I chose to do the Or Nue class or Anne Marie Moorhead. She is also the person who designed my Illuminated letter kit, which is still to be finished.<br />
<br />
The Or Nue is a nice technique & possibly the last of the gold work I do for a while, as there is still so much for me to learn else where, but here is my result:<br />
<br />
I like the postage stamp effect the ric rac gives this small piece & so have decided to take the satchel we got out information in & stitch name etc details on the front & attach this as a postage stamp.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwF0RfijsgBPhS4pCqd2jDp6mya87H41onyiUCj8J3AsW0fqYbN0ZU81KOUPWeUEsKjiOlOULuTpI9NBR8tWDI4JBO8UyPaCR8MF-Upj0Lx1MtOGliQ_mfvEnAkzlz5e3TcjCxYfNKJImt/s1600/Or+Nue.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwF0RfijsgBPhS4pCqd2jDp6mya87H41onyiUCj8J3AsW0fqYbN0ZU81KOUPWeUEsKjiOlOULuTpI9NBR8tWDI4JBO8UyPaCR8MF-Upj0Lx1MtOGliQ_mfvEnAkzlz5e3TcjCxYfNKJImt/s1600/Or+Nue.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
In the meantime my mum & I have been organising "Stitch-In Saturdays" at her shop. we stated out in the guild rooms, however there were issues & so now we meet ever 2nd & 4th Saturday in the back room of her shop - which is very handy when you run out of supplies - cause there they are!!<br />
Through this I have met one new embroiderer, of a similar age & her sister is also a crafter - I met her only once & she was talking some impressive bead work.<br />
During one of these Saturdays my mum taught a few of us how to crochet & so I have been working on a few things of the crochet kind including a balaclava for my man & now I'm part way through a doily.<br />
With a few things finished I could finally tackle an idea from my own head & here were the supplies:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UE9XnnEEVkc/U28Wi71e1_I/AAAAAAAAA_Y/6Z7UkGlrs5s/s1600/New+Project.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UE9XnnEEVkc/U28Wi71e1_I/AAAAAAAAA_Y/6Z7UkGlrs5s/s1600/New+Project.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
this is for the "Post bag colour challenge". this year's theme is Black, White and Grey in between. I am making a Kindle cover. The embroidery is done, next is probably the more challenging task of putting it all together.Karen's Stitchographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895056620988960647noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412652663690597845.post-77876668323205584662014-05-09T00:56:00.002-07:002014-05-09T00:56:10.435-07:00tooo looongsorry folks, I moved, had computer issues & nearly forgot my password... but I'm still stitching!<br />

<br />
Today I had time to start on this & I decided to start by finishing the techniques which looked unfinished. This allowed less thinking & let me spend some time with the piece which is helping me make future decisions.<br />
<br />
Here is what I did today:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zf9rGfd7SX8/UW-e21vtiWI/AAAAAAAAAr8/AoeZDi2ncdk/s1600/100_2874.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zf9rGfd7SX8/UW-e21vtiWI/AAAAAAAAAr8/AoeZDi2ncdk/s400/100_2874.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And here (as promised) is the updated finishing of the flutterby:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-50FpmGD7_Vs/UW-fq6SmEZI/AAAAAAAAAsE/_M4ogQutHik/s1600/100_2877.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-50FpmGD7_Vs/UW-fq6SmEZI/AAAAAAAAAsE/_M4ogQutHik/s400/100_2877.JPG" width="311" /></a></div>
Over the next few days, i should have more time, in between my part time job, picking my daughter up from school, taking her to my friend in Timaru for the school holidays & then being involved in the local performing arts competitions... then back to work again.Karen's Stitchographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895056620988960647noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412652663690597845.post-18916263015023975302013-04-11T21:21:00.001-07:002013-04-11T21:21:35.621-07:00Stitching for Othersmy next project is someone elses. A UFO of a lovely inspirational lady, Joan is someone I have known practically my whole life, her husband used to take me to kindy, & they gave me one of my first jobs as a teenager. Joan is kind & patient & I don't recall her ever being cross with me. She has always encouraged my own craftiness & I have several treasured things which she made for me & my daughter.<br />
So to return some kindness, I offered to complete a piece of goldwork for her. Something she hasn't worked on for at least 5 years, due to several moves, reducing eyesight & as she says "impatience with the fine work required".<br />
Here is what she has started:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BzSM8dUOSos/UWeIYADkk6I/AAAAAAAAAq4/BgGCxqkcbn4/s1600/100_2862.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BzSM8dUOSos/UWeIYADkk6I/AAAAAAAAAq4/BgGCxqkcbn4/s200/100_2862.JPG" width="200" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y6GWFfHLHto/UWeIXKQePtI/AAAAAAAAAqw/t12etvoq1wA/s1600/100_2861.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y6GWFfHLHto/UWeIXKQePtI/AAAAAAAAAqw/t12etvoq1wA/s200/100_2861.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwg1S6EM-Y-UNLk4awlO-Iy2ILCHP2XHh2q2-8Sd2-PudpZs5QFz4dEWQa33RtbgnzmK4IBJGOhyhJ8qtoMvUbLhqTZe6wtdHO2L3zB5vMhP5iB9Uuo62nRYcH19goVCW7pKcyUaBP4n5o/s1600/100_2864.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwg1S6EM-Y-UNLk4awlO-Iy2ILCHP2XHh2q2-8Sd2-PudpZs5QFz4dEWQa33RtbgnzmK4IBJGOhyhJ8qtoMvUbLhqTZe6wtdHO2L3zB5vMhP5iB9Uuo62nRYcH19goVCW7pKcyUaBP4n5o/s320/100_2864.JPG" width="288" /></a></div>
& a close up.<br />
Then I got given the box of supplies... oh wow!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZusselTAe3hsODrRXqB8Yvy0yWHHKXnXM-jrLb-V_u-F4u7KNQQ507bINHJ8w2YnjMKobnGDOQEbnclap96HNo3ELnf-3Dsl2OP6Fq65MNW8X4FPc9LABTT4vfuz3do31dgiIDnagdD9e/s1600/100_2867.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZusselTAe3hsODrRXqB8Yvy0yWHHKXnXM-jrLb-V_u-F4u7KNQQ507bINHJ8w2YnjMKobnGDOQEbnclap96HNo3ELnf-3Dsl2OP6Fq65MNW8X4FPc9LABTT4vfuz3do31dgiIDnagdD9e/s320/100_2867.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Yikes! no pattern, no set rules... deep breath, challenge accepted! this is pretty exciting, kits make doing a particular technique easier. With rules, step by step instructions, you normally get a pic to show what it 'should' look like at the end... with this it's more up to me. pushing me outside my comfort zone with this technique.<br />
Firstly, I organise...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--krHZy_v3pg/UWeKBO66hDI/AAAAAAAAArU/9RWEaqwtHhk/s1600/100_2869.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--krHZy_v3pg/UWeKBO66hDI/AAAAAAAAArU/9RWEaqwtHhk/s320/100_2869.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
one thing I like about this 'Egyptian Head' is that the part which is finer goldwork, is the hair, or as I like to think of it, the Brain. As the brain is segmented into areas, this is lending itself to applying different techniques.<br />
<br />
Oh and I have a new tool - proper goldwork scissors, which Mum ordered through the class we took together:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgto5myAh9gOwDNPufpproCzAharxndfBRHWodpo_s7LWKTeNR_ZtSubWesErxpKTOVLviM54vnuuvq1syhlyW4HlAzzJPrSHqy5cKK7TBkF__zHV71FdqOhwTvNnXYbhTVcbr_WWeJfuWz/s1600/100_2865.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgto5myAh9gOwDNPufpproCzAharxndfBRHWodpo_s7LWKTeNR_ZtSubWesErxpKTOVLviM54vnuuvq1syhlyW4HlAzzJPrSHqy5cKK7TBkF__zHV71FdqOhwTvNnXYbhTVcbr_WWeJfuWz/s320/100_2865.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
One of the blades(?) is serrated which should make the cutting of gold thread easier with neater ends.<br />
<br />
Oh, and lastly - tip of the week (from Mum) - we are spraying out flutterby & dragonfly with hairspray, to keep them from tarnishing & help them stay nice for longer.Karen's Stitchographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895056620988960647noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412652663690597845.post-42907129682194643182013-04-08T00:02:00.001-07:002013-04-08T00:03:36.953-07:00linked and confusedthe confused part is not unusual, but the linked thing is kind of cool...<br />
<br />
basically I am participating in this:<a href="http://andstitches.blogspot.com/2013/04/show-us-your-tools-and-win-awesome.html"><img alt="&Stitches tool kit competition" src="http://andstitches.com/blogbuttons/andstitches-toolkit.png" /></a>
<br />
<br />
oooh and I made that work too :)<br />
<br />
anyhoo, the post I entered in the competition was my first one I made for this blog - I'm not sure if that is ok, or if the "Tool kit" was supposed to be in this post, but heck, I'm a crafter not an internet guru.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yaUFgDAPd5U/UWJqeoa9moI/AAAAAAAAAqY/XtT1JByaRp0/s1600/100_2814.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yaUFgDAPd5U/UWJqeoa9moI/AAAAAAAAAqY/XtT1JByaRp0/s320/100_2814.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
in any case here is what my kit sometimes ends up looking like.<br />
<br />
Also I need to do another pic of the butterfly, my mum gave me a suggestion for finishing touches, which I implemented...now she is happy with it & I will get it back off her after guild meeting on Thursday where she wants to show it off.<br />

so next, I shall go back to my illuminated letterKaren's Stitchographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895056620988960647noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412652663690597845.post-55418660866104737542013-03-26T00:22:00.001-07:002013-03-26T00:22:06.816-07:00FlutterbySo it seems this may just be 'Goldwork' year. Sunday I attended a class in Dunedin with <a href="http://alisoncoleembroidery.com.au/" target="_blank">Alison Cole</a>.<br />
She has amazing kits & is an excellent teacher.<br />
<br />
After making the Ladybug & then having a go at the Illumination letter, it was good to learn some more and spend some time with my Mum as well.<br />
<br />
Here is what I did during the class:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NXZPqDztBl0/UVFKOFubhSI/AAAAAAAAApA/-ikARHjrvh0/s1600/100_2804.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NXZPqDztBl0/UVFKOFubhSI/AAAAAAAAApA/-ikARHjrvh0/s320/100_2804.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
one of the most important lessons I learnt was that I had to complete the rest in a timely manner as the gold threads will tarnish & unless I wanted half my project more tarnished than the other half - chop chop!<br />
<br />
Since Monday:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eAFmFhYXwZI/UVFKStOxDxI/AAAAAAAAApU/veslo1Q1IjM/s1600/100_2806.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eAFmFhYXwZI/UVFKStOxDxI/AAAAAAAAApU/veslo1Q1IjM/s200/100_2806.JPG" width="199" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg99SpzYjB3Uq-tBf61cF3feNxXw-rwIeVdW8tZAssNvLNagdOeU65Wu_84tg7-bi9bNL2oAhKaL0BFjXkto2PUvyH8NtM-eMzkHkWtfnZFD7neMYSAALEhs2ArbJ1oA2UsluKtdEA94uVP/s1600/100_2807.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="169" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg99SpzYjB3Uq-tBf61cF3feNxXw-rwIeVdW8tZAssNvLNagdOeU65Wu_84tg7-bi9bNL2oAhKaL0BFjXkto2PUvyH8NtM-eMzkHkWtfnZFD7neMYSAALEhs2ArbJ1oA2UsluKtdEA94uVP/s200/100_2807.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
the red is long & short stitch, takes a while, but a nice technique.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AjYsGthWKpM/UVFKUm5PijI/AAAAAAAAApc/IGZmdxyrtk8/s1600/100_2810.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AjYsGthWKpM/UVFKUm5PijI/AAAAAAAAApc/IGZmdxyrtk8/s320/100_2810.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
outline all done with the Gilt Pearl Purl #2.<br />
Today I have also done the vein lines, but I need better lighting to get you a pic... tomorrow :)<br />
<br />
at some point I will also need to decide what to do with it... may even frame it! *shock*Karen's Stitchographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895056620988960647noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412652663690597845.post-49159761502554363132013-02-25T22:25:00.000-08:002013-02-25T22:25:15.156-08:00New ToolsWith the start of learning Gold-Work came the acquisition of 2 new tools.<br />
Firstly the lap frame (or 'fanny-frame' as my mother likes to call it) proving to be brilliant as it gives me two hands to stitch with.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-c40Ru_h7HOQ/USxS7W4ik5I/AAAAAAAAAoM/wOqlmcRDBVc/s1600/100_2782.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-c40Ru_h7HOQ/USxS7W4ik5I/AAAAAAAAAoM/wOqlmcRDBVc/s320/100_2782.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
the base part simply slides under your leg, giving you support & the frame can be raised, tilted & swung around.<br />
Second tool was a Mellor:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-woYBsSeIKVA/USxS-_mmKhI/AAAAAAAAAoU/EPytFWY1UGk/s1600/100_2785.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="111" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-woYBsSeIKVA/USxS-_mmKhI/AAAAAAAAAoU/EPytFWY1UGk/s320/100_2785.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I got this at my Ladybug class, this one is made from stainless steel, here in NZ. otherwise hard to find, when I went googling anyway. It's great for pushing the metal threads into place & for stuffing small areas.<br />
<br />
and an update on my letter:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SEPdM4UVrcc/USxTB2nvQ6I/AAAAAAAAAog/AsTEu2Kk620/s1600/100_2780.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SEPdM4UVrcc/USxTB2nvQ6I/AAAAAAAAAog/AsTEu2Kk620/s320/100_2780.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Silver work all done.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9Tb-0Ns_feU/USxTBijzURI/AAAAAAAAAoc/rY9t4aThrvQ/s1600/100_2786.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9Tb-0Ns_feU/USxTBijzURI/AAAAAAAAAoc/rY9t4aThrvQ/s320/100_2786.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
and here you can see I have satin stitched the top corner motifs over felt which gave padding. Then I realised I needed another one - for the bottom left...Karen's Stitchographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895056620988960647noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412652663690597845.post-59619450237885343792013-02-22T23:12:00.002-08:002013-02-22T23:12:49.885-08:00Illuminated LetterNow I'm back into it - with a lap-frame making stitching much easier - I have started a project which I bought the pattern for back at conference last July.<br />
<br />
Illuminations for Embroidery, an Annie M. Design. Letter K.<br />
Part of me was reluctant to buy this as in my mind, it kind of looks like a B, but I was swayed as I want to do the technique & I had a voucher for Nancy's to spend. Also they told me that it has the lines top and bottom as this was the medieval thing to do.<br />
<br />
So after feeling successful with my first go at gold work, I dug out the pattern & set about ensuring I had the necessary supplies. Firstly, fabric - luckily in my stash I has a beautiful piece of Dupion Silk, exactly the size required - yah!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-WF74CfBZD2p196mTN8QKibYH06S_gjNaFTPG0lon27YHuqKJDqQ9IQIuKPTD0N4WkNoOpvFNeRqRxd1l6xgp7SOXPHFO9hiwAxbnm4N50WlyRahQQE6oU2-kZoxfjeGwUIsIrjjk1EQj/s1600/100_2764.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-WF74CfBZD2p196mTN8QKibYH06S_gjNaFTPG0lon27YHuqKJDqQ9IQIuKPTD0N4WkNoOpvFNeRqRxd1l6xgp7SOXPHFO9hiwAxbnm4N50WlyRahQQE6oU2-kZoxfjeGwUIsIrjjk1EQj/s200/100_2764.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
I also had the silver required - purchased with the pattern. Then tried to sort out colours to go for the flowers, leaves & some padding thing & the inside filling of the letter.<br />
Got my carbon-type paper for putting the pattern on fabric, then off to the shops for some calico, and the padding thread. also got some invaluable advice from my Mum to make sure I was on the right path for the colours. (Hurrah for Mum!)<br />
here is the pattern traced on, ready to stitch.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_KYp_ty_Ql0/UShpzCrGw8I/AAAAAAAAAnU/3lRY68P1jII/s1600/100_2763.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_KYp_ty_Ql0/UShpzCrGw8I/AAAAAAAAAnU/3lRY68P1jII/s200/100_2763.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
See - it looks like a B.<br />
And after the morning at the A&P show here is todays work.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PKwKDCfJR1o/UShrDM3CZdI/AAAAAAAAAng/wqrlcv7lSHI/s1600/100_2773.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PKwKDCfJR1o/UShrDM3CZdI/AAAAAAAAAng/wqrlcv7lSHI/s320/100_2773.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And a close up of the silver...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfdbq7s8JqgL-nsjiEGVvHOI-8Ue0oxTdQif3AVJGZSLTE0tElAyrjOLIIXYjomnJqQWO-ya_0mPkcLCSOk2BQpQfJq5COsnL8_6jssp0OhFwtMkXK6FPU8peIjvq1xrkLQfKhZ2vA_6Ok/s1600/100_2776.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfdbq7s8JqgL-nsjiEGVvHOI-8Ue0oxTdQif3AVJGZSLTE0tElAyrjOLIIXYjomnJqQWO-ya_0mPkcLCSOk2BQpQfJq5COsnL8_6jssp0OhFwtMkXK6FPU8peIjvq1xrkLQfKhZ2vA_6Ok/s320/100_2776.JPG" width="180" /></a></div>
I'm not sure I am overly happy with the top & bottom lines, but I will do more of the actual K before I unpick those lines to re-do. I seem to be developing some form of perfectionism, which feels very weird.Karen's Stitchographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895056620988960647noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412652663690597845.post-89949449996094474172013-02-17T19:09:00.002-08:002013-02-17T19:09:10.424-08:00Back to StitchingYah! back to stitching :)<br />
<br />
there has been much moving around, getting settled & finding places for stuff, including my craft stuff. Even working out where I want to work on craft & how that will work in a new home.<br />
<br />
The best thing, still, is my mum. She enrolled me in a class to make a 'gold-work' brooch, before I even moved down & that class has given me the push I needed.<br />
<br />
here is what I did...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY1OcLiWaRzvPUVpnJwPy8oLDXqdzblZpn-3QtDUuwMsStM4bd_S3dHsLVLQPd1Mgu_fRf3VSunOVZ-9W1rUXwU3T2BGYBkLHNmD8MCjD0Efr9zsxKCVgaXjWtyQIKHBivG5IW5Pj2rQDi/s1600/IMG276.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY1OcLiWaRzvPUVpnJwPy8oLDXqdzblZpn-3QtDUuwMsStM4bd_S3dHsLVLQPd1Mgu_fRf3VSunOVZ-9W1rUXwU3T2BGYBkLHNmD8MCjD0Efr9zsxKCVgaXjWtyQIKHBivG5IW5Pj2rQDi/s200/IMG276.jpg" width="200" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3Wgrug25JrG7aDNzqXWV62hXqx20uswjn46QyBZRf-AxZfnbFRSSzhchguMUEXGMkaq8lKJG1zeQ_IH8v_LZ7L32hrUohbEM1tfWdxCM6ReUojHJ3Kf3gObed-MJ_mI8ikceTQiYZBCMd/s1600/IMG278.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3Wgrug25JrG7aDNzqXWV62hXqx20uswjn46QyBZRf-AxZfnbFRSSzhchguMUEXGMkaq8lKJG1zeQ_IH8v_LZ7L32hrUohbEM1tfWdxCM6ReUojHJ3Kf3gObed-MJ_mI8ikceTQiYZBCMd/s200/IMG278.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Above is my progress through day 1</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyvDWv6CT8e2loQc6dvM6UifJVuoM5K2YWqOIMaSo8z2rIQ58cBCeevU1pXcK0wVFBe275TF_xBKQf9POB4zNeHeH7mk8MdDqgBTqryrzlaqSKWA1nthozevQW_phsCQZummLyujjrk4Fj/s1600/100_2751.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="262" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyvDWv6CT8e2loQc6dvM6UifJVuoM5K2YWqOIMaSo8z2rIQ58cBCeevU1pXcK0wVFBe275TF_xBKQf9POB4zNeHeH7mk8MdDqgBTqryrzlaqSKWA1nthozevQW_phsCQZummLyujjrk4Fj/s320/100_2751.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
this is my finished Lady-bird brooch</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
"Gold-work" is the technique, although I prefer silver & so choose to use silver metal threads.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KMGaY6w6_5g/USGZZcVEhJI/AAAAAAAAAmk/UDYaiwEHfY4/s1600/IMG282.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KMGaY6w6_5g/USGZZcVEhJI/AAAAAAAAAmk/UDYaiwEHfY4/s320/IMG282.jpg" width="183" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is what my Mum made - apologies for the terrible pic, I was using my cell phone.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-phOChyi6S1A/USGZaO_7dHI/AAAAAAAAAms/bo6-J_TigK4/s1600/100_2752.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-phOChyi6S1A/USGZaO_7dHI/AAAAAAAAAms/bo6-J_TigK4/s320/100_2752.jpg" width="305" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And now inspired I did this last night. I now have a lap-frame, which makes stitching easier than ever!</div>
<br />Karen's Stitchographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895056620988960647noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412652663690597845.post-10850655388743901502012-12-03T01:04:00.003-08:002012-12-03T01:04:47.203-08:00MovedWow! it has been ages since my last update & loads has happened.<br />
Short version: went to Mary Poppins in Auckland, traveling with a great friend, catching up with great friends along the way & having a magical time!<br />
Moved to Oamaru, where I have things spread between my Mothers & my boyfriend's homes - at least I know where my craft stuff is!<br />
Celebrated my Birthday & now we prepare for Xmas. Oh and I did start a new job, well, kind of 2 new jobs really... one for the government with regular hours although only part time & the other in my mothers shop, where I do her books & help in the shop from time to time.<br />
<br />
Most importantly I have been stitching. Firstly something I had been talking about for a few months now:<br />

I call these "Spanky Hankys" just in case you can't read the words on the hanky.<br />
<br />
I have also been working on my sisters Xmas pressie, but cant post pics til after the giving & some Xmas cards, which I should also take pics of to share.<br />
<br />
Oh, and for my birthday my darling mother gave me several embroidery items mostly around the Crewel theme, as this is what I'd like to try my hand at next & some Elizabethan embroidery books.<br />
<br />
I really need to finish off my Xmas cards next & then do some more work on my little house, but without my own set space for stitching, I feel a bit out of sorts... I'll get there though.<br />

<br />
I'm moving. In 18 days. to the other island. in 18 days.<br />
Fortunately I finish my current job in 3 days. then I have 2 weeks, but in the middle, I have a friend staying & she, my daughter & I are traveling to Auckland (8 hour drive) to see Mary Poppins. We will take a few days to do so, visiting people along the way. But at this point I'm not sure where I will fit any stitching in.<br />
Let alone time to update the blog... maybe Wednesday?<br />
<br />
Just know I haven't forgotten you!<br />

in other news, my Mum is booking me into 2 classes for next year already :) one is a day in Dunedin with Alison Cole doing some gold work & the other class will be at her guild... or soon to be my new guild! Oh in case you missed the memo - I'm moving to Oamaru in December :)</div>
Karen's Stitchographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895056620988960647noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412652663690597845.post-84713035948767696512012-09-11T22:23:00.001-07:002012-09-11T22:23:46.147-07:00Sometimes the hardest choice is making onea minor detour to my project was had, but this only took me 3 days & then was posted off to the person who is putting loads of these together to create a larger display? I think, I dont really know the whole story, but happy to be distracted by something little that took very little brain effort (compared to my other project).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ki4CyD86b5g/UFAW65K2uBI/AAAAAAAAAjQ/IQvAYFleMYo/s1600/IMG169.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ki4CyD86b5g/UFAW65K2uBI/AAAAAAAAAjQ/IQvAYFleMYo/s200/IMG169.jpg" width="154" /></a></div>
then back into the main project... the thimble holder - although I have only done the outside parts, there is still the lid lining to be done, but that has to be done on different materials & I haven't chosen that yet, so it will just have to wait.<br />
Here are the top and base:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="186" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iMZjsW_vWiI/UFAX2TNVOUI/AAAAAAAAAjY/0geLTpN779A/s200/100_2502.JPG" width="200" /> <a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qGMzTeVw3vQ/UFAYQotRlyI/AAAAAAAAAjg/f7WtpsUDmwU/s1600/100_2503.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; display: inline !important; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="176" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qGMzTeVw3vQ/UFAYQotRlyI/AAAAAAAAAjg/f7WtpsUDmwU/s200/100_2503.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
here is what the sides will be:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f_JsMu1Gia0/UFAYyu2CMzI/AAAAAAAAAjo/M2QtU3wK2sk/s1600/100_2504.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f_JsMu1Gia0/UFAYyu2CMzI/AAAAAAAAAjo/M2QtU3wK2sk/s200/100_2504.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And to give you an idea of size, here is the 3 pieces together<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GD2S6BdZbR8/UFAZgIBSADI/AAAAAAAAAjw/bw6EwdEGnec/s1600/100_2505.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GD2S6BdZbR8/UFAZgIBSADI/AAAAAAAAAjw/bw6EwdEGnec/s320/100_2505.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
So now I have to decide the next pieces to do: Needlebook, Spool holder, or Tape Measure holder... I'm just not ready to face the Beaded thread counter or the Thread Cutter cover - yikes! Don't even think about the actual box!<br />
<br />Karen's Stitchographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895056620988960647noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412652663690597845.post-35667354689461132612012-08-18T01:17:00.000-07:002012-08-21T23:21:32.023-07:00Crash! & other things I now know a little aboutToday my daughter & I took part in what I will call a class (although others called it a 'play day') with the ladies from <a href="http://creativecraftsupplies.co.nz/index.php" target="_blank">Creative Craft Supplies</a>.<br />
I'm calling it a class, as I had very little idea what I was going to be doing & even if I would like it, but I would learn a LOT!<br />
So from 9:30am until about 3pm, I learnt through play. no games as such, but much messing around with colour, paint sticks, dye, paints, fibers, stencils & more! I'm still not 100% what to call what I have achieved, and I have a couple of ideas of what to do with these, but not sure I will want more... unless it was for a particular project (cause that's just how I am)<br />
<br />
Firstly we fused a couple of pieces of 'crash', painted them with a colour we don't like, added a stencil with molding paste, painted that with the opposite colour on the colour wheel & near the end we got to add paints - using <a href="http://creativecraftsupplies.co.nz/embroiderersfibre3.php" target="_blank">'Shiva' sticks, dyes.</a> Mod podge was used to seal some layers, other layers were sealed by ironing.<br />
Then we did it all over again, but were allowed to choose our own colours. (whew!) here are my two results:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tlbbUr703QA/UC9I2wC1d-I/AAAAAAAAAiM/2Iskb7u6sAg/s1600/100_2377.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tlbbUr703QA/UC9I2wC1d-I/AAAAAAAAAiM/2Iskb7u6sAg/s320/100_2377.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z6h8YpC84-s/UC9JR2ZtyXI/AAAAAAAAAiU/wbk5h36NWJc/s1600/100_2379.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z6h8YpC84-s/UC9JR2ZtyXI/AAAAAAAAAiU/wbk5h36NWJc/s320/100_2379.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I really liked the leaves with the plum & cyclamen colours I like, but it took a lot of work to be even ok with (what was) Orange piece.<br />
<br />
Next was taking 2 pieces of vliesofix & painted those, then we used some abaca paper & put a stencil on one & the other had words printed on it. ironed these together & modpodged to seal & then added dyes, and Shiva Sticks until we were happy. and I was.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Uma6de21j9o/UC9My6_-wwI/AAAAAAAAAis/iPK4KXYm-zY/s1600/100_2378.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Uma6de21j9o/UC9My6_-wwI/AAAAAAAAAis/iPK4KXYm-zY/s320/100_2378.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kjwKIQGL_Ag/UC9NYWRhBtI/AAAAAAAAAi0/DXLLR9vKSHQ/s1600/100_2380.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kjwKIQGL_Ag/UC9NYWRhBtI/AAAAAAAAAi0/DXLLR9vKSHQ/s320/100_2380.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I will probably stitch onto some of these and/or use them for book covers, not completely sure yet. My daughter had a great time & I think she would LOVE to do more of this... however I simply see that to do so would involve owning too many supplies, I simply would never use up - which kind of drives me nuts.<br />
What would YOU do with these?<br />
<br />
PS - I now have a thumb that kind of looks like a Smurf has turned into the incredible Hulk :)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bw2JWkjhRVY/UCcUtX6RRUI/AAAAAAAAAhI/ce8sJw3hsKg/s1600/100_2363.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bw2JWkjhRVY/UCcUtX6RRUI/AAAAAAAAAhI/ce8sJw3hsKg/s320/100_2363.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I'm not sure yet what I will do with it, I think it will make a nice book cover perhaps.<br />
<br />
So now it there has been enough procrastination & as I have no more UFOs in my stash, it was time to start the Home Sweet Home workbox. gulp. I got this book for Xmas from my mother (yah Mum!)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4oeh1fo8lqM/UCcWnCyZA_I/AAAAAAAAAhY/tPyrmfLReGs/s1600/100_2368.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4oeh1fo8lqM/UCcWnCyZA_I/AAAAAAAAAhY/tPyrmfLReGs/s320/100_2368.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
After much fretting over threads - so many listed in the book & brands I had never heard of. I have settled down, using threads I already own & working it out. Starting with the very small scissor keep:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0r_dv6RNxfE6kJmzlEFhCSN91iAG7jrMgkmDGQ6pE96ol5qP0-Ht754gxeDEZxCBxuy22wxuUXEUr7jgJKWvBex1Uo1SR41FTN-b3C4IdiOlz59dLPDJ32AvsNZKUH9BU9Z_GozXvwoH9/s1600/100_2365.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="184" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0r_dv6RNxfE6kJmzlEFhCSN91iAG7jrMgkmDGQ6pE96ol5qP0-Ht754gxeDEZxCBxuy22wxuUXEUr7jgJKWvBex1Uo1SR41FTN-b3C4IdiOlz59dLPDJ32AvsNZKUH9BU9Z_GozXvwoH9/s320/100_2365.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The blue lines are my Frixion pen which, will disappear when I iron the back :)<br />
<br />
next I did the Bee emery block:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I1bEqh-xzhE/UCcXDxiK_oI/AAAAAAAAAhg/SWDYdXP3Z9s/s1600/100_2369.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="168" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I1bEqh-xzhE/UCcXDxiK_oI/AAAAAAAAAhg/SWDYdXP3Z9s/s320/100_2369.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
To give you an idea on size, here is one side with my thimble:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2dXXCqIrUAU/UCcXV2TF0BI/AAAAAAAAAhs/u1EBQW1Poic/s1600/100_2375.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2dXXCqIrUAU/UCcXV2TF0BI/AAAAAAAAAhs/u1EBQW1Poic/s320/100_2375.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I struggled with proportions of things on this one, I still dont think the flowers are large enough, but redoing something 4 times is enough.</div>
Due to the size, this is becoming a daylight hours only project, so weekend work for me. Next up I am going to do the Rose pincushion, then I will actually put those 3 items together.<br />
<br />
I will get on to actually doing the house itself... eventually.Karen's Stitchographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895056620988960647noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412652663690597845.post-36254775469976940042012-07-31T00:17:00.000-07:002012-07-31T00:17:00.528-07:00Christchurch projects completedMy Punto Antico project is complete :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SVm3RTG-YYM/UBeE6HnkHoI/AAAAAAAAAgk/UeWdzN0W4P4/s1600/100_2350.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SVm3RTG-YYM/UBeE6HnkHoI/AAAAAAAAAgk/UeWdzN0W4P4/s320/100_2350.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
While I was at it I also put together this cute little angel I purchased at the Merchant's mall<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WZl8TQHp8NA/UBeFPg_TGQI/AAAAAAAAAgs/AI54h7I0taQ/s1600/100_2351.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WZl8TQHp8NA/UBeFPg_TGQI/AAAAAAAAAgs/AI54h7I0taQ/s320/100_2351.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
It is filled with emery sand to sharpen needles. Not something I have thought of needing to do previously, however that is probably due to primarily using blunt tapestry needles.<br />
<br />
Now I have started the kit which was part of our goodie bag at conference, I am finding that if I am feeling a bit tired after work, a little stitching seems to wake me up again :)<br />

I was the delegate for my guild and it was a real treat to see & be part of some of the most talented stitches in NZ. Each guild put together a display & here are a few examples:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
the Wairoa guild won best display, my favourite was the colour wheel. The pic with the red items in it is my Mum's guild - North Otago, you will simply have to excuse my lack of photography skills.<br />
<br />
There were a couple of meetings & some interesting speakers. we also went to the exhibition, which I recommend everyone checking out - at the Buddist Temple on Riccarton road. Free entry & amazing embroidered works of art!<br />
<br />
Then Monday & Tuesday I took my class in Punto Antico with Trish Hughes. Trish is a great tutor - generously teaching us all sorts of extra tricks as well as the technique we signed up for. Here is what I had completed on the first day:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And this is what I have done now. I had a few days off, but the 3 hour ferry ride allowed me the time to get stuck in again.</div>
<br />

Once all the stitching is done, it will need a wash & a press & then I chop around the edge - actually looking forward to that part!<br />

She also taught me how to do the long armed cross to nicely join the two pieces & ensured that it was stuffed appropriately - thanks Mum!<br />
<br />
With the presidents challenge guild members are encouraged to complete an item & then we all bring them to a meeting and vote on which one we like the best. voting is anonymous & entries are generally anonymous also - so no popularity contest really, although fairly casual.<br />
Anyway, judging is in & here is the winning entry:<br />

<br />
Now if you wish to see this in Real life as well as the other entries - please head along to the <a href="http://www.embroidery2012.co.nz/" target="_blank">Embroidery Conference</a> from the 7th of July in Christchurch at St Bedes. You can check out all the amazing work the guilds around NZ do. I am really looking forward to this.<br />

As she has only taught to her local guild members I offered to test her written instructions - at the moment I am good at this task as I am still learning a lot, yet am pretty good (if I do say so myself) at reading & learning stitches. I have also timed each step so she can ensure enough is taught.<br />
<br />
This is inspired from a pattern she purchased in Canada & has adapted:<br />

<br /></div>
it has been a bit tricky choosing the right threads for each piece, but all part of the learning curve & ensuring I had enough thread for the parts I choose. There were a couple of times where I found the incorrect way to do one stitch several times.<br />

We had a work day in Upper Hutt yesterday, I love the way these work days always have a table of things that the local guild ladies donate & sell very cheaply. I got a piece of linen 90cm x 75cm in green - pretty cool, thought I would be able to use it for my class when I go to conference, asked the lady there what count she thought it was & she said to measure an inch is the length of some part of her finger, which she then counted the threads - 30 - yah, I'd been having a hard time finding any 30count, so then at the other stalls I bought the threads required to match... all set!<br />
Until this morning, when I started to tack out the required griding, I remeasured - with a tape measure - & it's a 38count... grrrrrr. Luckily I realised that my Mum had given me some 30 count (& had the count written in pencil on the hem) for making my house, but there is a lot of material there & I think I might even use some of the green on that... maybe.<br />
So now I need to buy more threads to match this correct fabric.<br />
<br />
Next project I think will be the project for my Mum, testing her instructions.Karen's Stitchographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895056620988960647noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412652663690597845.post-10546374813620332222012-05-12T22:13:00.000-07:002012-05-12T22:13:29.375-07:00Sampler updateI have completed all the cross stitching required for the sampler & got a better photo of the last page I put on here:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JDi7f5CUxjg/T688YXRMTOI/AAAAAAAAAcw/P33QybOgb1Y/s1600/100_2222.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JDi7f5CUxjg/T688YXRMTOI/AAAAAAAAAcw/P33QybOgb1Y/s200/100_2222.JPG" width="150" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdmg-EJTL_QITytD5njY5UJ12Z6P_ozZhSjFvC9IE6O6SJiIiJ6OYC8uEjUP2cAQ7O4I96j2TnHVCb65_kbbbeJUzmJXStmOkLtWjKhyphenhyphentR1osoLnz1NSC2Iv2o7Kh9IPd9Kq_5XD0KYLAl/s1600/100_2221.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdmg-EJTL_QITytD5njY5UJ12Z6P_ozZhSjFvC9IE6O6SJiIiJ6OYC8uEjUP2cAQ7O4I96j2TnHVCb65_kbbbeJUzmJXStmOkLtWjKhyphenhyphentR1osoLnz1NSC2Iv2o7Kh9IPd9Kq_5XD0KYLAl/s200/100_2221.JPG" width="150" /></a></div>
Next each page has been backed with a piece of thick interfacing & then I mitered the corners & tacked the excess linen to the interfacing. with this done I have joined two pages together using long armed cross.<br />
At this point I realise how tiny these pages are!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xscfZ9IHdVI/T68_6_7IPtI/AAAAAAAAAdA/Dx1O2JkQCqo/s1600/100_2224.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xscfZ9IHdVI/T68_6_7IPtI/AAAAAAAAAdA/Dx1O2JkQCqo/s320/100_2224.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
My next step will to purchase some suitable ribbon to bind the pages together.<br />
<br />
While I am finishing things, I made a tassel & finished my chair:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-O2TMsFVww_k/T69BawHebFI/AAAAAAAAAdI/_mj54N-SCOQ/s1600/100_2223.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-O2TMsFVww_k/T69BawHebFI/AAAAAAAAAdI/_mj54N-SCOQ/s320/100_2223.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Now, soon I hope you will be seeing the next lot of projects, which include one unfinished sampler for friends, a piece which I am testing the instructions on for my Mum, the Home Sweet Home project & not to mention a few baby gift things. I really should get onto those baby gifts, or at least plan what I am going to do there!<br />

I did have to re-hem what I had completed last week, but after much brain work I finally got the corners mitred :)<br />

Now I have washed it & am waiting for it to dry for a final pressing. I'm very happy with the finished table runner.<br />
<br />
Just in case I hadn't mentioned the details: this was done on 25 count linen, with 8 & 12 cotton perle. any questions please ask.Karen's Stitchographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02895056620988960647noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-412652663690597845.post-27248076150099510432012-05-05T20:09:00.001-07:002012-05-05T20:09:35.042-07:00ProgressProgress is being made - the sampler has one more page done & only one to go - one with not as much stitching required as the rest :)<br />
